The African Union set aside the 31st of July, 2009 to celebrate women on the continent. Today marks the 8th anniversary of that declaration. As we commemorate this day, we shouldn’t let it pass as any ordinary day but, let us all take time off today to reflect on the life of African women. Her traditional role as a daughter, sister, wife or mother together with the professional roles some have assumed over the years. Let us particularly reflect on the evolving role of the African Woman in the 21st century. Take a look at at how best all these myriad role women play can be harnessed so that the world can effectively benefit from the uniqueness of women and what we bring to the table in the development agenda. I wish all ‘females’ on this day, a happy AFRICAN WOMAN DAY’. Go out there and make a difference.
